Description of the Job Regional Category Manager

Job Owner

Superior (Line/Functional) Head of Regional Procurement/ Global Category


Purpose of the Job

  1. Manages one or more “Categories “ for the region
  2. Development of Procurement strategies within the assigned category and region
  3. Improvement of quality and processes in the respective category
  4. Identification of saving opportunities and initiation of respective projects
  5. Realization of savings, quality and process potentials
  6. Implementation of the category strategies in the countries and management of regional suppliers


Main function/responsibility/competencies

  • Lead and drive one or more categories to ensure the success of the category as part of the global procurement team. Ensure the procurement team in the countries achieve the required performance and focus on the effective application of the sourcing methodology for all materials of the category Ensure that the country teams apply the rules of the Procurement Manual in the countries and region
  • Ensure that the procurement and sourcing process are robustly applied and push the regional team to position themselves to deliver maximum value
  • Work closely with the country procurement teams, identify and remove potential barriers to success
  • Ensure the country team member has targets defined and is in alignment with the involved Target Markets and country/regional strategies
  • Ensuring the implementation and tracking of the achieved results
  • Responsible for achievement of regional category targets and in alignment with the respective target market strategies
  • Self contained realization of strategic projects and targets
  • Create and track strategic Procurement targets by measuring KPI`s
  • Take ownership for delivering targeted bottom line results for each material group within the category and provide regular material group and category communication which includes savings and other objectives. Provides quarterly savings reports to the regional procurement head and the global category manager
  • Identifies and facilitates saving projects in the region, ensures supply of materials for all facilities served by the category
  • Ensures that representatives of the participating countries and the regional procurement head are involved and communication is done properly
  • Assures compliance and ethical standards with applicable laws, Procurement Manual and Code of Conduct

Standard of performance:

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written in English) with the ability to present concepts at functional and executive levels
  • Ability to manage conflict and encourage collaboration
  • Demonstrated team ability, team facilitation and team member participation
  • Demonstrated broad understanding of supply chain management with relevant commodity management experience
