Job description


Overview: The Anode Scientist will participate in technical content build projects to support our graphite anode projects undertaken in support of our intellectual property products and services. The work is largely focused on commercializing of graphite anode materials. You will provide research, cooperate with engineering companies and contractors to perform engineering analysis, perform process design and products development. In addition, you will review and evaluate patents related to graphite anode technologies as required. As a practiced professional, you bring a good understanding of current advanced anode technology and/or advanced non-carbon anode technology as well as demonstrated knowledge and experience with graphite anode manufacturing processes.

Founded in 2012, our client is a mining development company specializing in graphite. Its Matawinie graphite project is developed according to the highest environmental and social standards. To support its strategic development, the employer plans to market natural and value-added graphite products. With this in mind, they want to fill a position of Graphite Li-Ion Battery Anode Scientist (Materials Scientist).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the research of lithium ion battery material mechanism and apply to the new recipe and aggregometry design
  • Participate in project scoping calls with the clients and provide technical support during project proposal preparation
  • Work closely with engineering department and contractors to determine the right process and equipment selections
  • Responsible for the lithium battery anode material electrochemical test and verification to determine the performance of various anode materials for lithium batteries;
  • Write reports to explain analysis results; act as a technical verifier for reports prepared by other team members
  • Identify new devices and/or processes that merit analysis and assist with the identification of sources for procurement of devices
  • Contribute to technology trend analysis, process/materials analysis, research, and documentation technical subject matter expert to define internal technical requirements for anode material process development
  • Responsible for graphite anode materials characterization and lab development
  • Work closely with other team members to evaluate engineering results

Key Requirements:

  • Engineering degree (Electrochemical, Chemical, Materials or equivalent). (Graduate school prefer 211 or 985), A master or Ph.D. in engineering is an asset
  • 5-15 years’ industry experience in the well-known companies in the domestic or oversees same industry is preferred
  • Strong analytical skills combined with ability to handle multiple sources of information
  • Have a deep understanding of soft carbon, hard carbon, natural graphite, artificial graphite
  • Excellent oral and written English communication and presentation skills
