The (Sr.) Director of Strategic Research Portfolio Management will help the Research Senior Management team to manage the preclinical research portfolios including mapping the current research programs, planning the resources and tracking research progress.
In this role, the candidate will lead a group of project managers to help the project leaders for a better manage the preclinical drug development and IND process of an oncology or inflammation product in PCT (Project Core Team), and organize the program review in DERC(Discovery Executive Review Committee). The candidate will work closely with other internal functions, eg, Chemistry, Discovery Biology, Biologic, DMPK, in vivo Pharmacology and translational science to ensure the quality and timeline of research.
In addition, the candidate will need to work with other cross-business team such as clinical development team to promote the successful transition of preclinical program into clinical development.
The ideal candidate should have a thorough understanding of all the requirements and processes needed to advance drugs through discovery and into development, including: target selection/validation to lead ID & lead optimization; preclinical toxicology; pre-clinical candidate selection; IND/CTA filing; and ultimately toward registration. A demonstrated track record of leading research groups that have moved compounds into the clinic is essential.
The candidate should be energetic and inspirational, with communication skills that enable him/her to be persuasive to a broad and heterogeneous group of stakeholders. The ideal candidate should also have strong capabilities in managing timeline, budget, risk identification and mitigation for research project.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide scientific perspective and leadership to research projects. A primary focus and experience in either oncology research or inflammation/immunology therapeutic areas is preferred.
Demonstrate strong people management skills, leading by example with a high level of emotional intelligence, and be willing to work collaboratively with other functional groups.
Demonstrate strong project management skills and budget planning
Work with project teams to set objectives, timeline, deliverable and manage multiple projects.
Be responsible for data review, analysis, and interpretation from a variety of sources and evaluates the impact on research projects and goals.
Provide input into go/no-go decisions for projects.
Effectively apply and enable state-of-the-art technologies and best practices to improve operational efficiency.
Ph.D. degree in Biology, Biochemistry and relevant major are preferred.
Proven biotech, drug discovery and development process, project management experience are preferred.
5+ years of experience in Preclinical research, ideally within the small molecule/biologics oncology/inflammation setting.
Strong organization skills and able to support multiple projects in a timely and organized manner.
Strong written and communication skills; and the ability to work effectively with a diverse team of co-workers in a dynamic environment.
Self-motivated, be able to work in an entrepreneurial environment.
